PROMPT

What is PROMPT?

PROMPT stands for Prompting for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets. It is a speech-language treatment technique used by a trained speech-language pathologist to treat all speech production disorders from approximately six months of age and onward. This treatment helps children and adults develop motor skills required for speech and language production.

How does it work?

PROMPT is a dynamic technique that allows the therapist to provide tactile and kinesthetic cues to the face, jaw, lips or tongue. This will help the child or adult with speech production difficulties to create and organize a single sound, word, phrase or sentence.

PROMPT therapy sessions begin with an evaluation of the patient to find out if they will benefit from the therapy. If the therapist feels that a patient would benefit from the therapy, they are typically scheduled for a one-hour treatment, once per week. Treatment periods vary greatly depending on the patient, but generally range from 3 months to 3 years.
